Toddler Room
Our Toddler Room teachers love to read, sing, and do sign language with the toddlers as they teach
(basic Spanish, colors, shapes, numbers, letters and animals, etc). The teachers also provide
time for making art projects, developing small motor skills (like playing with musical instruments,
working with puzzles, coloring etc.) as well as for developing large motor skills like walking and
dancing. Toilet training is a lesson for older toddlers unless the parent notifies the teacher
otherwise. Manners like please, thank you or taking turns are introduced to show appreciation
for listening or waiting. A short notice gets sent home daily with information such as how well
your child ate, how often a diaper/pull-up was changed, etc. A music teacher comes weekly to
teach the toddlers songs for the bi-annual concerts where they get to perform for their family in
the Spring and Winter.
In this classroom, the toddlers are introduced to a few Montessori
methods such as individual work-time on carpets, cleaning up their work area, and group circle
time. Older toddlers are transitioned by participating in introductory Montessori
activities for short periods of time in the preschool room until they are ready to move into
the preschool room.
The following are some testimonials from parents when asked about what makes them feel good about
our Toddler program at Rainbow Montessori:
- "My son comes home with new things he's learned from this daycare every day, there are great teachers
that treat all the kids the same and the center is neat and clean." - Latasha G. November 2009
- "I have a toddler enrolled that started nearly 2 months ago. This is his first experience
away from home, I'd also have been experiencing problems with feeding him non-baby food at home.
Less than a week after being in Rainbow's toddler room, all he wants to do is eat "big-boy" food with
a spoon all by himself. I also noticed that he voluntarily cleans up his toys when he is done
playing at home and he loves to sing the songs that he learns at his school. I couldn't believe
how observing other children his age provided such a positive change in his behavior." - Natasha H. October 2009
- "Good education." - Joyce H. November 2009
- "Great teachers, good kids, and my daughter is learning so much here." - Ryan J. November 2009
- "We love Miss Katie and all the staff at Rainbow. Miss Katie has good communication with us.
There is a huge improvement in my daughter's manners and she enjoys all of the art, singing, and
dancing." - Stacey P. November 2009
- "My son seems to enjoy his days. I think my son pays closer attention to other things besides
toys and playing, he shares better with others, and shows more interest in reading and writing." -
Lyndzey S. November 2009
- "Potty Training, naptime, and learning." - Samuel H. November 2009
- "I feel my son is learning a lot because he has already expressed new words and shown me other
things he's learned (i.e. teeth, tongue, etc), and he has never has such good temperament.
He has been the happiest loving kid since we've started and he is well taken care of." - Mandy H. November 2009
